A local business is expanding, thanks in part to a Community Development Block Grant announced on Monday.
The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Sheboygan said that the half-million-dollar grant to Old World Creamery will be used, in part, to support equipment expenses and create 20 new, permanent full-time jobs over the next three years.
This marks the second $500,000 grant to the dairy company, and was offered after conditions of the first award, made in 2018, were met; those being the creation of 29 new positions over the course of two years, with 15 of those being held by low-to-moderate income individuals. Those goals were exceeded, with 30.8 full-time or equivalent new positions, with 26.6 of those held by low-to-moderate income workers.
Old World Creamery President Steve Knaus said there are big plans for the future, with suggestions of a drive-through window for mobile customers looking for a scoop of ice cream or some squeaky-fresh cheese curds.
