Betty A. VanOuwerkerk, age 85, passed away Thursday, August 25,
2022 at Pine Haven Christian Home.
Betty was born October 12, 1936 to Willard and Valeria (nee Schmitz)
VanOuwerkerk, the second of four daughters. She was born and raised
on a farm in northern Wisconsin, and her family moved to Sheboygan
Falls when she was 15 years old. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls
High School in 1954, and worked at Troy Laundry for 7 years. She lived
in California and Highland Park, IL before moving to Milwaukee. She
worked at Northwestern Mutual for 34 years before her retirement in
2001, and then moved back to Sheboygan Falls. She was a member of
Blessed Trinity Parish.
Betty loved to travel and visited Greece, Israel, Spain, Jamaica,
Bahamas, England and Hawaii. She belonged to the National Stutterers
Association, and attended their yearly conventions in a different state
each year. She volunteered at the Historical Research Center in
Sheboygan Falls, sponsored numerous foreign children, and enjoyed
word search puzzles, and game shows on TV.
Betty was survived by two sisters, Janet Mauer of Sheboygan Falls, and
Joan Evans of Sheboygan; plus many beloved nieces and nephews,
great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews, and dear
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Bennin; three
brothers-in-law, Elroy Mauer, Chuck Evans, and Dale Bennin; and a
niece, Pollyanna Evans.
A private burial will take place at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in
Sheboygan Falls.
