The clock is ticking on most school-agers in Sheboygan County as summer vacations wind down and schools are being readied for the new school year.
Nearly every county public school district will begin classes one week from today, the exceptions being Plymouth and Oostburg – both of which wait until after the Labor Day holiday and commence sessions on Tuesday, September 6th.
The reason for those later starts, at least in Plymouth’s case, is the Sheboygan County Fair which also begins a week from today. That fact serves as a reminder that summer vacation wasn’t always a vacation. In a younger, mostly agricultural country, children in the U.S. were needed to help out on the family farm, just as many in Plymouth are busy hosting their City’s biggest event of the year.
As to the weather for the last stretch of summer, the National Weather Service expects pleasant days with temperatures reaching the mid 70s to lower 80s, and the best chances of rain today, Sunday and Monday.
