Karen “Skip” Lou (Carpenter) Deicher peacefully passed away on August 9, 2022. She was born on October
24 th , 1941 in Plymouth, Wisconsin, daughter of the late James and Marian Carpenter. Karen was always better
known by her nick name “Skip/Skippy”. Karen attended and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1960.
She later graduated from Sheboygan County Teachers College in 1962.
On June 9, 1962, Karen married Roger Deicher at the First Congregational UCC Church in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
She taught in Franklin, Wisconsin for two years before welcoming the first of their four sons. She also did
some part time retail work as she primarily stayed home to help raise her boys David, Daniel, Dennis, and
Duane. Later, Karen loved providing daycare for her niece (Dawn Ashley) two children Travis and Kyle Ashley.
She was officially their “Nanty” from the time they were six weeks old until they were about 7 years old along
with some summers after that.
Growing up Karen enjoyed playing canasta with her best friend and cousin Celeste Krez. She also had a special
friendship with Marian Gempeler in high school and then reconnected when she moved back to Madison
Wisconsin. Karen loved her soap operas during the day and having a Manhattan while watching Wheel of
Fortune in the evening. Most of all, she enjoyed traveling all over the world with her husband Roger of 55
years. From travelling to 47 of the US states to as far as Egypt, China, Europe, and South America. Hawaii was
their favorite destination as it was the only place they went more than once.
Karen loved her family. She kept up on all the activities of her kids, grand kids, and great grand kids. She loved
hosting family at Easter and also having family stay with her at their house. She also was well known for
opening her house to her children’s friends and making them part of her family as well. She will be missed and
loved by all that knew her.
Karen is survived by her two sons and their wives: Daniel and Julie Deicher, Duane and Jayna Deicher and
daughter in-law Mary Mezera. Seven grandchildren: Krystle Bradley, Courtney Thomas, Katie Deicher, Ryan
(wife Heather), Jenna Anderson (Husband Greg), Evan, Caleb, and Kendyl Deicher. Seven great grandchildren:
Erica and James Bradley, Lucas and Levi Thomas, Hallie Deicher, Aiden Koger, Ryleigh Deicher and Roughton
Deicher and her sister whom she dearly loved, Camen Hewitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roger Deicher, parents James and Marian (Schlenter) Carpenter,
Sons David and Dennis Deicher, Nephew Greg Hewitt, Brother Lee Carpenter, Sister-in-law Jane (Stark)
Carpenter, Brother-in-law Donald Hewitt, Brother-in-law Leroy Reichert, and Sister-in-law Marilyn (Deicher)
Reichert.
A private family service was held on Thursday, August 18 th 2022 at Wittkopp Funeral Home in Plymouth, WI.
The service was officiated by Rev. Kristal Klemme of First Congregational UCC, Plymouth. She was buried at
Woodlawn Cemetery in Plymouth, WI.
In Lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials in Karen’s name. (A Stroke Foundation or a local Human
Society)
Karen’s family would like to say a special “thank you” to the caring staff at St. Mary’s Felician Village and Home
Care Health Services and Hospice in Manitowoc Wisconsin for their wonderful care of Karen over the years
and especially in her final moments.
