Officials in neighboring Washington County have announced that they are stepping up their enforcement of traffic laws following an uptick in violations and complaints from the public.
Sheriff’s Lieutenant Ryan Herman took to social media on Wednesday to let the public know that increasing complaints of speeding and extremely aggressive, dangerous driving – such as passing on the righthand gravel shoulder at highway speeds – prompted them to respond to public demand.
One week ago the Sheriff announced the arrest of a 31-year-old Horicon man in connection with a fatal accident a month earlier. In that incident the subject rear-ended another vehicle on Highway 164 while using social media and other apps on his cellphone, sending the vehicle into the oncoming lane where it was hit head-on, killing the 30-year-old pregnant driver and her one-year-old son. The Horicon man now faces three counts of Homicide by Negligent Operation of a Vehicle and one count of Reckless Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm.
