What began 38 years ago as a front-porch event is being celebrated across the nation tonight, and Sheboygan will be part of that celebration. The National Night Out began in 1984 as an opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors and their local law officers, and has now grown to include 16 thousand U.S. communities.
In Sheboygan, the activity is centered at End Park between 4:30 and 7:30. Sheboygan Countywide Crimestoppers, the local sponsor, calls it an evening of fun, food and togetherness. The Fun includes a Kids Workshop, music, and the chance to see law enforcement, fire and SWAT vehicles. The food comes from Sheboygan’s collection of food trucks that will be at End Park, and the togetherness includes about a one-mile-long Walk Against Crime through the neighborhoods near the park at 6:30.
Sheriff Cory Roeseler, Sheboygan Police Chief Christopher Domagalski and Mayor Ryan Sorenson will also address those gathered there to enjoy all the fun, food and fellowship.
