Elreta A. (Amel) Quast, 93, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2022, with her family by her side at Field
of Dreams Assisted Living in Kiel, WI.
Elreta was born at her parents' home in Brothertown, WI, on September 2, 1928, to Arno and
Wilhelmina (Bergien) Amel. Elreta graduated from Chilton High School.
Elreta was united in marriage to Marlin Quast on Sept. 15, 1948. Together, they raised six children.
Elreta and Marlin celebrated 55 years of marriage together before his passing in 2004.
Elreta was a devoted mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with them.
She was a member of St. James United Church of Christ in Spring Valley and was a member of the Ladies
Aid and taught Sunday School for many years. She was also a member of the Manitowoc Homemakers’
Association. Elreta enjoyed spending time with Marlin and family camping and fishing. Elreta was a very
devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and loved to watch them play with an Old Fashioned with lots of
cherries in her hand.
Elreta is survived by two sons, Herbert Quast and Jeff (Linda) Quast; three daughters: Janet (James) Roe,
Lisa (Mark) Koenig, and Amy (Karl) Christianson. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; many great-
grandchildren; brothers, Dennis “Pat” Amel and Arvid “Ob” (LaVerne) Amel; nieces and nephews; and
many other relatives and friends.
Elreta was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marlin Quast; daughter, Pamela (David) Balzer; two
grandsons, Alex and Brian Quast; three brothers; two sisters; sister-in-law, Diane (Eugene) Hanson; and
other relatives and friends.
A funeral service for Elreta will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at St. James UCC
(13312 Pioneer Rd, Newton, WI 53063) with Pastor Patrick Schultz officiating. A public visitation will
be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at the church. Interment will follow at the church cemetery and a
luncheon will follow services in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Elreta’s name.
Elreta's family would like to thank the staff of Field of Dreams Assisted Living in Kiel for treating Elreta
like she was family over the last several years. They would also like to thank the staff of Heartland
Hospice for the wonderful care and support they provided in Elreta's final days.
