Judith R. VanCalligan, 79, of Sheboygan, passed away Thursday morning, June 30, 2022 at the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by her family.
Born March 4, 1943 in Sheboygan, Judith was a daughter of the late William and Ruth Fistler Nickel. She attended Grant School and graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1961. On February 16, 1963, she was united in marriage to Donald Edward VanCalligan at St. John United Church of Christ.
Judy worked at the Kohler Credit Union as a loan officer for many years until her retirement. She previously worked as a telephone operator. She was a member of St. John UCC where she sang in the choir, Mother and Others Club and the Women’s Guild. She was a member of the Sheboygan Symphony, playing the cello for more than 50 years and the Sheboygan Music Club. She was an active volunteer with the Friends of the Mead Public Library and the Weill Center. She was an avid reader, playing canasta with her cousins, knitting and arts and crafts. Judy and Don loved to travel, including wintering in Florida, taking 27 cruises through out the world and taking family vacations, especially to Disney. Judy’s greatest joy was the time she spent with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Don; her children, John (Kim), Sheboygan, Susan (Marc) Durant, Sheboygan Falls, and Cathy (Joe) Kudirko, Sheboygan; her grandchildren, Derek (Kelly), Tyler (Dulcey), Emily VanCalligan, Claire and Sophie Durant, and Anna Kudirko; her sister, Ruth Siegworth, Beloit; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Carol Henning and Mary (Richard) Butzen and a brother-in-law, Frank Siegworth.
A Memorial Service for Judy will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at St. John UCC, 13th & Lincoln Avenue. Family and friends are welcome at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
The family would like to thank Dr. S. Mark Bettag and the nurses and staff of the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for all of their loving care and support.
The Olson Funeral Home & Cremation Service has been entrusted with Judy’s arrangements.
