Beginning next week, getting around Sheboygan’s northwest side could be a bit more complicated as work begins on a three-quarter mile stretch of North Avenue.
The Sheboygan Department of Public Works advised that they’ll be closing that stretch between North Taylor Drive and Calumet Drive to through-traffic beginning on Tuesday to allow for repairing the sanitary and storm sewers, repairing and replacing crosswalks, fixing the concrete pavement and applying a new asphalt surface.
Residents and businesses there will still have access using cross-streets, and a detour will be posted using North Taylor Drive, Geele Avenue and Calumet Drive. At the same time he City announced that the Calumet Drive intersection with Geele Avenue was re-opened to east-west traffic as part of that ongoing project, but for now southbound Calumet Drive is one lane only and northbound is still closed. Crews had initially hoped to completely reopen Calumet Drive by July 4th but, as always such projects depend on weather. If all goes well, the North Avenue repairs should be done by September.
