With the most pressing issues now addressed, the long process of cleanup from the major thunderstorm of June 15th is underway by the Sheboygan Department of Public Works. The DPW now says with help from the public, cleanup should be mostly complete by the week of July 18th.
A systematic effort to finish the job will take several different actions: cleanup of debris on streets and public terraces, removal of damaged trees, and removal of stumps in areas of lifted or damaged sidewalks.
The DPW is asking the public to help by refraining from parking cars near or adjacent to piles of tree debris so crews and equipment can quickly maneuver and collect that debris. The Department said that roads may be closed without advanced notice to get that done, and is asking drivers to not drive around barricades or cones.
Tree debris from private properties should not be placed roadside, but rather taken to the drop-off site on New Jersey Avenue which will remain open except for Sunday, June 26 from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Those with questions should contact the DPW via their website at www.sheboygandpw.com.
