The 6th and 7th traffic fatalities of 2022 have been recorded in Washington County as the result of a multi-vehicle accident on Wednesday.
It was just before 5:45 a.m. when 911 calls began coming in to the Dispatch Center reporting the crash at Highway 164 and Elmwood Road in the Village of Richfield.
The initial investigation shows a southbound vehicle operated by a 30-year-old Mayville mother with her one-year-old son in the car was rear-ended by another southbound vehicle, pushing it into the opposite lane where it was struck by a northbound vehicle. The mother and her son died at the scene. Occupants of the other two vehicles were all injured and required medical attention. The crash, which closed Highway 164 for four-and-a-half hours, remains under investigation.
