A grant application submitted by the Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation was approved for a share of a $125 million Broadband Expansion Grant administered by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin. The broadband expansion grants, announced on Thursday, invest in construction projects for internet service in areas of the state that are challenging to connect due to population density or geography.
The PSC awarded $1,364,000 to the SCEDC to utilize a Fiber-to-the-Premise service to reach 25 businesses and 1,221 residential locations along Highway 57 from the Village of Random Lake north to the Town of Rhine – a total of 1,233 unserved locations.
Editors Note: The original article stated that “The SCEDC will be putting $1,806,000 in matching funds into the project.” In fact, the SCEDC has informed us that it will not be matching those funds, but rather those dollars will come from local business, governments, and school districts.
Those contributions consist of pledges as follows:
Village of Random Lake $686,000.00
Random Lake School District $ 90,000.00
Bertram Communications (In-Kind) $607,000.00
Bertram Communications (Cash) $423,000.00
