On Saturday June 18, the Blind Horse Restaurant & Winery will host the 6th annual 5K run/walk to be hosted by the Run with Angels charity. Started in 2015 following the loss of their four-year old daughter Addison Emilie Nye, the charity founded by her parents Tom Nye, the general manager of the Blind Horse and his wife Nancy, benefits an additional cause that is represented this year by Mental Health America (MHA) in Sheboygan County.
This 5K was born as a coping mechanism for one family, but Tom Nye himself says that it has grown beyond that initial purpose. “This event has always been about honoring our loved ones that we’ve lost and turning that pain into something healing as we celebrate their memory,” Nye said.
Participants are asked to bring two printed photos of their loved one they are walking for; one will be for the memory wall of dedication and the other one for participants to carry during the race. In addition to the memory wall each participant will be given the option of uploading a photo of their loved one upon registration, and The Blind Horse will use it to make a custom label for the “In Memory Of” bottle of wine each participant 21 and older will receive after the event. Registration fees are $55 dollars for 21 and older participants, $35 for children ranging 13-20 years old, $25 for children 6-12 years old and free for children 5 and under. The 21 and older runners will receive a race t-shirt, logoed wine glass, swag bag, and commemorative bottle of wine.
