Richard A. Skowlund, age 84, of Plymouth, WI, peacefully passed away Friday evening, (May 20, 2022) at
the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
He was born on February 13, 1938, in Milwaukee, WI, the only son of the late Raymond and Evangeline
(Rheingans) Skowlund. Richard graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1956.
He served in the United States Marine Corp. from 1958 to 1961.
On April 11, 1964, he married Carol Gehring at St. Bernard’s Church in Wauwatosa.
Richard started his working career at Globe Union and Blue Cross Blue Shield in Milwaukee. Later he was
employed as a System Analyst by the Sheboygan County Data Processing Department for Sheboygan
County.
Richard was active in his church serving on the church council, the property committee, and he sang
in the church choir for many years.
In the early years, he served as a Cub Scout leader and coached his sons’ baseball team. He enjoyed
camping, especially in Door County, hiking, biking, canoeing, and sitting around the campfire with family
and friends talking and watching fireflies.
Richard loved people and he was known for his sayings, “I like to make people smile,” “Life is great all
the time,” “Attitude, attitude, attitude,” and one of his favorites, “Choices, choices, choices.”
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Carol of Plymouth, two sons; Christian (Kerry Brown) and
their daughter, Kaia, of Charleston, S.C. and Kevin Skowlund of Madison, WI.
He is further survived by brothers –in-laws and sisters-in-laws: Ceil Gehring of Oconomowoc, Ed Gehring
of Hartford, Andrew (Linda) Gehring of Menomonee Falls, Stephen (Carol) Gehring of Rubicon,
Greg (Karen) Gehring of Milwaukee, Philip Gehring of Hartford, Lori Gehring of West Bend, Ann (Richard)
Wolfe of Juneau and Christine (Randy) Lorrigan of Hartford, as well as many other nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Private family funeral services will be held at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, WI. Rev. John
Schultz, Pastor of St. John Lutheran Church in Plymouth will officiate. Entombment will be in the Garden
of Eternal Life at Wisconsin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial funds are being established in Richard’s name for the Plymouth Food Pantry
or the Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice in Sheboygan Falls.
