MEDFORD, WI (WHBL) – It started with a bear eating at a bird feeder, but authorities say it ended inside a home in Medford when a couple killed the bear after it broke into their house.
It happened around 11 o’clock Friday night, as Taylor County deputies say the bear charged through a window after the couple screamed at the bear to get away from their bird feeder. Once inside, the woman told the sheriff she stabbed the bear while her husband went and got a gun. He shot and killed the bear.
Deputies say both the man and the woman were injured in the attack, suffering numerous bites. The couple were treated for their injuries and released. However, their children were asleep in their bedrooms at the time and were unharmed.
The Wisconsin DNR has taken possession of the bear for testing.
