Changes are coming to Sheboygan’s Downtown Transfer Station after a 17-year old was shot and injured last Friday.
Shoreline Metro Director Derek Muench announced the changes Wednesday following the second such incident since last October when one person was shot and killed. While the incidents were isolated and pre-meditated between certain individuals, Muench said that it’s important that customers and drivers alike feel safe when using the bus service and measures are being taken accordingly. Those measures include closing the enclosed customer waiting area, investing in a newer video surveillance system, adding staff and possibly a police presence at the Transfer Station, and incorporating cashless fare media payment options.
Muench said it’s hoped that the measures will deter similar incidents in the future, while also discouraging loitering, disruptive behavior and improper use of the service.
