Case data reported by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services indicates a rise in COVID-19 case numbers for both the State and County around the first week in May followed by a gentle decline in the 7-day average in the next week. But there’s evidence that a more significant rise could soon be seen locally.
The County DPH reports 130.92 cases per 100,000 persons in the past 7 days, up from 111.84 the week before. The current community level here is considered low by the Centers for Disease Control. 17 Wisconsin Counties, including neighboring Ozaukee County, have recently been upped to a “medium” level of community activity.
Meanwhile, monitoring of virus particles detected at the Sheboygan Wastewater Treatment Plant has shown a major increase between April 19th and May 3rd, rising to the highest levels seen since late January. Such monitoring doesn’t require individuals reporting their illness, and suggests that we may be in for rising case counts in the Sheboygan area. During the same time, however, data from the Plymouth Utilities Treatment Facility showed no change in COVID virus particle counts.
