Sheboygan County drivers breathed a sigh of relief once the Highway 23 expansion to 4-lanes was completed to the Fond du Lac County line last year. But that still didn’t finish the multi-year project to improve the county’s main east-west corridor, and that becomes apparent this week as the original lanes begin getting their new surface.
Fond du Lac County gets first attention from crews will that will begin milling and paving the inside lane of westbound 23 beginning at County “G” to County “W” north. That’s followed by milling and paving the inside lane of eastbound 23 beginning at Seven Hills Road to County “W” south.
Once that step is done, Sheboygan County’s portion will be milled and paved on the inside lane of eastbound 23. That phase begins at County “G” in Fond du Lac County, and extends to Sheboygan County Highway “P” just west of Plymouth. Various stretches of 23 will be reduced to one lane during construction.
The final improvements should be completed sometime this July.
