Paul De Sombre, age 74, of Elkhart Lake, passed away on May 2 nd , 2022, in the presence of his family.
Paul was born August 26, 1947, to Walter A. and Elaine J. (Juckem) De Sombre in Sheboygan, WI. He
grew up in Sheboygan and graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the Class of 1965. Paul
married Janet Tewelis on September 9, 1972. They were blessed with two children, Adam and Rachel.
Paul started working at Sohn Mfg. in 1967, starting as a typesetter, and continued to work there until his
retirement in 2008.
He had a life-long love for the outdoors and spent much time fishing and hunting, serving with the
Hermitage Conservation Club, and simply enjoying and photographing the wildlife and changing of the
seasons in display in his backyard. Paul played the drums in his youth and had many fond memories of
the special friends and times he had in the dynamic 1960’s music scene in Sheboygan. He enjoyed
traveling with his wife and friends, and loved taking the back roads. The man was a wizard with Excel.
In his retirement Paul took up baking and took a scientific approach to perfecting the baking of
Sheboygan hard rolls in his home oven.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Elaine; his father- and mother-in-law Joseph and
Anna Tewelis; brother-in-law Francis Tewelis; and sisters-in-law Mary Ann Teske and Geraldine Fenner.
Paul is survived by his wife, Janet; his children, Adam (Heather Cleveland) and Rachel (Larry
Ketterhagen); his sister, Mary (Loren) Matzdorf; brothers-in-law Gerald Teske and Norman Fenner; and
nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There will be no services, per his request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Sharon Richardson
Community Hospice are encouraged.
AND NOW, a word from the sponsor of this obituary…
“I’m very happy that I had a wonderful life, particularly because I was born in Sheboygan, WI. I love
Wisconsin. It is so beautiful and it was wonderful to grow up on the lake. As a young man I very much
enjoyed fishing and hunting with my friends. Being here allowed me to experience Great Lakes fishing
with my dad. I also find I was very lucky as Wisconsin allowed me to work at the Hermitage Club, where
I was able to meet many great people like the Becker Birds trap team.”
“I’m grateful to have worked one place for the whole time, it was great to see how the technology
changed over time. After forty years of working and shaving every day, it was nice to grow out a beard.”
“I am so proud of my children. The greatest joy of my life was my wonderful wife, who helped me with
everything that I did. I am a very lucky man to have a wife like that.” -Paul
