A proposal from Sheriff Cory Roeseler to remodel the County Jail/Detention Center and replace old equipment will be heard by the Law Committee when they meet at 4 PM on Wednesday at the Law Enforcement Center.
The project’s purpose is to replace original fixed equipment and flooring, and upgrade cameras to digital ones capable of facial recognition throughout the Detention Center which was build in 1998-99.
The plan proposes to epoxy-coat the 37 ceramic tile showers in the Law Enforcement Center as was recently done at the detention center, and replace a combined 6,500 square feet of carpeting and vinyl flooring.
The report emphasized the need to replace six air conditioning units, four food refrigeration units and two washing machines, noting that doing nothing about those could result in inmate unrest because of extreme temperatures, unheated meals or unwashed clothes.
Total cost of the proposal is over $2.3 million, and would be spread over five years beginning in 2023.
