Lakeshore Technical College, based out of Cleveland, WI, was chosen to receive the Expanding Advanced Renewable Energy Technician Education in a Technical College grant, which is funded by the National Science Foundation. The grant, which is worth $336,650 is the first of its kind to be awarded to Lakeshore by the NSF and will aid the continued education on the production and storage of renewable energy. Lakeshore’s Wind Energy Technology instructor Justin Barret and local entrepreneurial leaders in the renewable energy sector are collaborating to expand education on renewable energy, chiefly among employers in the college’s vicinity.
“This grant will help us continue preparing students learning in our state-of-the-art wind, solar, and nuclear energy labs for careers in the growing renewable energy industry,” said LTC President Dr. Paul Carlsen. The funding from the grant will also allow for curriculum adjustments accordingly by the school as the industries grow and adapt too. The grant will fund the purchase and installation of a rooftop mount and purchase of ground solar equipment, and the funds will be distributed over a three-year period.
