With road construction season now underway, more projects will be affecting traffic in the coming months, one of those impacting Calumet Drive, the major north-south route through the northern half of the city of Sheboygan.
Calumet Drive construction between Saemann and Geele Avenues will begin Monday, May 2nd, in order to replace damaged and cracked concrete pavement, while also repairing the sanitary and storm sewers.
The Department of Public Works says that the southbound lanes will be closed to through traffic for five to six weeks beginning on Monday, with traffic in that direction routed along North Avenue and North 15th Street. One northbound lane will remain open during that phase of the project. Once the southbound lanes are done, one lane in that direction will open while all northbound traffic will be detoured.
Schedules are weather-dependent, but project managers expect all work to be done by July 4th.
