8-year-old Oliver Hitchcock of Sheboygan Falls has died of injuries sustained Wednesday, his mother accused of causing his death.
His passing occurred on Friday, two days after police say Oliver’s mother assaulted him, and then inflicted injuries upon herself. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and later released to police custody and is in the Sheboygan County Jail awaiting formal charges from the District Attorney’s office. Police have requested one count of first-degree intentional homicide related to Wednesday’s incident, and another count of attempted intentional homicide related to an earlier incident discovered after witness interviews. Details of that count will be released once the District Attorney files formal charges.
Oliver’s passing was announced in a release from Sheboygan Falls Police Chief Eric Miller on Friday, who said: “With great remorse and a heavy heart, I have to report that the victim in this case, eight-year-old Oliver Hitchcock, passed away at 2:55 pm Friday, April 1, 2022, due to his injuries sustained in the assault on March 30, 2022.”
Miller added that his department has worked with the Sheboygan Falls School District where Oliver was a student to add extra staff and counselors there beginning Monday morning, and he encouraged parents to speak with their children and ensure their mental health.
Along with thanking the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance, Miller concluded by stating: “On behalf of the City of Sheboygan Falls and its residents, we offer condolences and prayers to the family of Oliver Hitchcock. This tragedy is not anything any family should have to endure. We are taking steps to ensure the mental health of our first responders and officers and thank the community for their support over the past several days.”
