Carl David “Dave” Picard, 84, of Sheboygan, passed away Tuesday evening, March 22, 2022 at his home.
Born November 10, 1937 in Cudahy, WI, Dave was a son of the late George and Audrey Carpenter Picard. He graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955. On February 22, 1975, he was united in marriage to Gayle F. Degenhardt Meyer in the parsonage of Bethel Baptist Church.
Dave was an operating engineer with Local 139 working at Rhode Brothers in Plymouth for many years. He also had been employed at Sohns Mfg and Sears. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, golfing, playing sheepshead and doing jigsaw puzzles, but especially enjoyed fishing at the Sheboygan Quarry. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Brewers, Badgers and the Packers. He and Gayle also enjoyed camping at Mauthe Lake, golfing, square dancing, and taking trips to warm climates in winter.
He was a proud member and supporter of the Democratic Party. He was a member of the National Guard Reserves for two years.
Dave was quiet and unassuming but always ready with a sarcastic quip. He could repair or install almost anything and even when he couldn’t, he sure tried. Although he was not a vain person, he was pleased that he had very little gray hair.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Gayle; his son, Brian (Sandy) Picard; Gayle’s children, Steven (Vicki) Meyer, Teresa (Jeff) Ebersol, David Meyer and Mark Meyer, his grandchildren, Katy and Kyle, Len and Jacob, Brent, Heather, Brandon, Crystal, Chandler and Kaleb ; 10 great grandchildren; his sisters, Patti (George) Fischer, and Carmen (Glen) Ter Maat; sisters-in-law, Donna Picard, Maryann Picard, Dotti (Rick Gustafson) Anderson, Kay (Jim) Kita, Debbie (Ted) Holsen, and Roberta (Randy) Johnson; his brother-in-law, Mike Cherveny; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Kelly Horton; his granddaughter, Nicole Vander Heyden; two sisters, Virginia (Lyle) Behr, and Judy Cherveny; two brothers, Jack and Gerald Picard; sister-in-law, Judy (Roger) Anhalt; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Peter and Dorothy Degenhardt.
According to Dave’s wishes, there will be no services or visitation.
If desired, memorials may be donated in Dave’s name to a charity of the donor’s choice.
We would like to thank the First Responders for their efforts and Police Officers Chris and Alicia for their extraordinary kindness and caring.
