A stretch of South Main Street in Fond du Lac gained the name “Miracle Mile” years ago after stores on that street sold winning lottery tickets numerous times, and it still seems to be a good place to try one’s luck.
Last Tuesday Joseph Bednarek’s wife sent him out to buy hot dogs & a few other groceries from a Pick ‘n Save at South Main Street and East Pioneer Road. While checking out, he decided to spend extra $10 on the Wisconsin Lottery’s “Badger-5” tickets at a dollar apiece. Even though the odds of a winning ticket were only 1 in 169,911, the gamble paid off, yielding enough winnings to not only cover the grocery bill – there was still enough to allow Joseph to retire, finish house repairs and add to his savings. The winning ticket was worth $107,000.
The Badger-5 from the Wisconsin Lottery offers a rolling jackpot starting at $10,000. And after paying off jackpots, money from the Wisconsin Lottery has generated over $5 billion in funding for property tax credits to eligible Wisconsin homeowners.
