The healthcare industry, still strained by pandemic-related employment shortages, may get some relief from a new program aimed at filling the void in nursing.
The program, called the “2+2+1 Nursing Pathway”, is a collaboration between Lakeshore Technical College and the UW-Green Bay that allows students to learn at LTC’s Cleveland campus, and at the UW-Green Bay campuses in Sheboygan and Manitowoc. It’s hoped that the option will allow students to stay close to home, save money, and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
Unlike an Associate Degree that allows a Registered Nurse to provide direct patient care, a Bachelor’s Degree allows RN’s to take on leadership and management roles, or to become nurse educators or advanced practice nurses.
Graduates of LTC’s associate degree nursing program can take the National Council Licensure Exam, which allows students to work as an RN while completing their bachelor’s degree.
