An ice jam has blocked the flow of the Sheboygan River, causing water to overflow the banks and prompting issuance of a flood warning from Sheboygan Falls to Sheboygan.
The National Weather Service says the river gauge at Esslingen Park reached bankfull at around 10:30 a.m. on Friday, spending much of the day near that 6-foot mark. But by 5 p.m. it began to rise more rapidly, at one point adding over a foot in less than a half hour, peaking at just over 9 feet at midnight Saturday morning.
A slow decline is forecast over the next several days. At the present rate, flooding is likely to affect River Park in Sheboygan Falls and Esslingen Park in Sheboygan and, depending on the ice jam, could impact Kiwanis Park as well until sometime early Thursday morning. The flood warning remains in effect until early Friday morning.
