Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday announced a more than $50 million investment in community safety, and nearly 1/3 of a million dollars of that will be coming to Sheboygan County as a result. The money is intended to be used for such things as training, recruitment bonuses, community policing needs and technology investments, with a goal of returning law enforcement and the criminal justice system to pre-pandemic levels of funding and performance.
LTC will also be receiving a share of a $1 million allocation to the Wisconsin Technical College System in an effort to support part-time police academy programs in Wisconsin.
On a statewide level, funding will be steered towards alleviating the pandemic-related backlog of criminal cases through additional public defender and assistant district attorney support, while the State Crime Lab will also get a boost.
The largest share – $20 million – will go to Milwaukee County and the City of Milwaukee.
Here’s how money will be allocated in Sheboygan County:

Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office $121,436.41
