Edmund J. “Ed” Schmitt, age 95, of Plymouth, passed away on Saturday (March 12, 2022) at Rocky Knoll
Health Care Center in Plymouth.
He was born on October 7, 1926 in Cleveland, WI, a son of the late Henry and Anna (Neiltz) Schmitt.
Ed attended St. Wendell Grade School in Cleveland, WI. He served in the United States Army from 1950
– 1952.
On December 30, 1961 he married Joan Moore Schuler at St. Mary’s-Clarks Mills Church in Reedsville.
He co-owned and operated Lakeshore Metals in Cleveland for 48 years. He also worked for Natural
Ovens in Manitowoc and Grain Millers in Newton.
Ed is a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, past member of the Cleveland VFW Post #8974
and Cleveland Chamber of Commerce. He currently is a member of the Ladewig-Zinkgraf American
Legion Post # 243 in Plymouth and Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, camping and playing Skat and Sheepshead.
Survivors include his wife, Joan; Eight children: Gary (Patricia ) Moore of Glasco, NY, Dennis
(Linda)Moore of Webster, NY, Gloria Shuba (special friend:Rob) of Fort Myers, FL, Steve Schmitt of
Sheboygan, Wayne (Mary) Schmitt of Green Bay, Pat (Edward) Contreras of Crown Point, IN, Pam
(Tom) Brink of Plymouth and Mary (Cory) Nennig of Plymouth; and many grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Anna Schmitt; his daughter: Carol Meyer; and ten
siblings.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday (March 19 th , 2022) at 11:00 AM at St. John the
Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. Father Philip Reifenberg, Pastor of the Church will officiate.
Burial will be at St. George Cemetery in Cleveland, WI.
Visitation will be at the CHURCH on Saturday (March 19 th ) from 9:00 AM until the time of Mass.
Military rites will be conducted by the Plymouth VFW World Cheese Center Post #5612 following
the Mass at Church.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Ed’s name.
