Seattle Kraken forward Jared McCann signed a five-year contract extension worth an average of $5 million per season on Tuesday.
McCann, 25, leads the expansion team in goals (21), points (33), power-play goals (seven) and power-play points (12). His goal total serves as a career high.
“I believe in this city and I believe in this organization,” McCann said in a video posted on the Kraken’s official Twitter account. .”.. We’re obviously looking forward to the future here and what we can accomplish as a team.”
McCann becomes the first player in franchise history to re-sign with the Kraken.
“We’re thrilled that Jared has made this long-term commitment to the Kraken and the city of Seattle,” Kraken general manager Ron Francis said. “Jared has proven this year that he can be a difference-maker offensively, and we’re excited to have him as a core part of our organization moving forward.”
McCann has recorded 188 points (87 goals, 101 assists) in 403 career games with the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers, Pittsburgh Penguins and Kraken. He was selected by the Canucks with the 24th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Draft.
