While the 7-day average of new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County is the lowest so far this year at 7 as of March 3, the pace of deaths is going up.
In the last 4 weeks – since February 4 – 30 deaths have been attributed to COVID-19. The last time that pace was matched…aside from anomalies due to data adjustments…was December 1-28 of 2020 when the total increased from 61 to 91 deaths.
The latest casualty, added on Friday, was a person in their 60s, the 252nd victim of the pandemic. One of those was between 10 and 19 years old, six were in their 30s, nine were in their 40s, sixteen were in their 50s, forty were in their 60s, sixty-six were in their 70s, and one-hundred-fourteen were at least 80 years old.
A total of 8 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were reported on Friday, upping the running tally to 29,248. 420 of those are active, 39 fewer than on Thursday.
A total of 1,194 county residents have required hospitalizations at some time during the pandemic, up three from Thursday. However with the current patient count up by 4 at 13 now hospitalized, at least one previous patient was re-admitted.
62.7% of county residents, or 72,230, have received at least one dose of vaccine, up 26 in the last day. 30 more received their second dose in the same 24 hours, raising that total to 69,017, or 59.9%. The number of those boosted rose by 39 to 37,078, or 32.2%.
