The third death due to COVID-19 recorded this week was reported Thursday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. A data discrepancy on Wednesday erroneously listed two deaths to persons in their 70s. That was corrected late Wednesday to only one.
The latest casualty was a county resident at least 80 years old. Of the now 251 deaths, one-hundred-fourteen were at least 80 years old, sixty-six were in their 70s, thirty-nine were in their 60s, sixteen were in their 50s, nine were in their 40s, six were in their 30s, and one was between 10 and 19 years old.
14 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were added since Wednesday, raising the total count to 29,244. The 7-day average of daily new confirmed cases of COVID-19 was 8 on March 2, the lowest rate since July 24, 2021 when it was 7. The rate peaked on January 10 this year when it was 282. The active case count fell by 27 to 459.
Hospitalization figures were unchanged since Wednesday, with 9 of a total 1,191 pandemic patients currently hospitalized.
First-dose vaccinations increased by 14 in the last day to 72,204 persons, or 62.7% of the county population. Another 35 completed their 2-dose series, raising that total to 68,987, or 59.9% of the population. 32.1%, or 37,039 have received boosters, 94 more since Wednesday.
