Some 13-1/2 miles of Highway 28 are slated for reconstruction within the next few years.
The Wisconsin DOT announced the project on Wednesday, detailing the resurfacing of the stretch from Highway 57 to the south county line through the towns of Lyndon, Mitchell and Scott including the villages of Cascade and Waldo.
Also included are the replacement of a bridge over the North Branch of the Milwaukee River in Cascade, along with repairing and replacing beam guards, curbs, gutters and culverts. Although the highway will remain open during much of the work, a detour will be required during bridge replacement. Utility relocations should begin next year and construction is slated for 2025, but could begin by 2024. Not all temporary and permanent real estate easements are in hand yet, and acquisition will begin this summer.
Public input on the project is being gathered at this time. The DOT has provided a handout detailing the project and providing contact information.
