Amid all the promising data tracking the decline of the COVID-19 pandemic in Sheboygan County, deaths still drive home the fact that this is a deadly disease.
Three more casualties were attributed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus on Wednesday, raising the toll for the pandemic to 245. One victim was a county resident in their 60s, while two were in their 70s. By age group, one-hundred-twelve were at least 80 years old, sixty-two were in their 70s, thirty-nine were in their 60s, sixteen were in their 50s, nine were in their 40s, six were in their 30s, and one was between 10 and 19 years old.
Only 8 new confirmed cases were added on Wednesday, raising the county total to 29,148. After accounting for deaths and 252 recoveries, the active case count fell by 247 to 1,024. The 7-day average of daily confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County on February 22 was 11, down from 15 the previous day, and down from an all-time high of 282 on January 6, 2022.
There are 8 persons currently hospitalized, one more than on Tuesday, and 1,174 have needed such treatment so far, some of them more than once.
The level of community transmission remains “high”, but the case rate fell by 17.34 points to 141.32 cases per 100,000 persons over the last week. 8.12% of tests came back positive, a drop of 1.4%.
The Sheboygan County COVID-19 Disease Activity Level is still considered “very high”, however all surrounding counties except for Fond du Lac have now receded to “high” levels as of the latest analysis. Our Burden, or total number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents in the last two weeks, is 426.1, down from 685.5 last week, representing a downward trajectory of 39%. That compares with an overall state burden of 359.5 per 100,000 persons.
62.6% of the county population, or 72,095 persons, have now received at least one dose of vaccine, 14 of those administered in the last day. 59.7%, or 68,777, have completed vaccination, an increase of 26 in the last day.
