The most recent wave of the SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic here has experienced an impressive decline in the last month. On January 18th there were 4,503 active cases of COVID-19; as of Friday, February 18 there were 1,643. So far there have been 29,079 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County.
The 7-day average of daily new cases, after reaching a high of 282 on January 6th, has declined to 15 as of February 17th. A month previous, on January 17th, it was still 219.
There were 163 recoveries in the last day, offsetting the 16 new confirmed cases to drop the active count 147 from the previous day.
With one new admission, the total number of hospitalizations for COVID-19 has reached 1,164. There were 12 patients on Friday, February 18. One month ago, on January 18th, there were 45.
The level of community transmission remains “high” with a 7-day case rate of 303.45 per 100,000 persons, down nearly 40 points from Thursday. The percent of tests returning positive fell 0.14% to 9.47%.
38 more persons received their first dose of vaccine, raising that total to 72,061, or 62.5% of the county population. 59.6%, or 68,662, are fully vaccinated. That’s up 47 from Thursday.
