Another solid indicator of the recent decline of COVID-19 activity was seen when the Wisconsin Department of Health Services updated its index of COVID-19 disease activity in Wisconsin. Sheboygan County, along with 70 other counties in Wisconsin, now exhibit a “very high” level of activity. This is the first time the relatively lower level has been assigned here since reaching “critically high” on November 30 of last year. Only one Wisconsin county, Douglas, remains “critically high” at this time. The previous 2-week period rated, from January 26 to February 8, found 56 counties still “critically high”.
Another indicator has also made a significant decline. After peaking on January 10 this year at 282, the 7-day average of new daily COVID-19 cases reported in Sheboygan County has dropped to 18 as of February 15. A similar level was last seen on July 30 of 2021 near the low point of the ongoing pandemic when the average was 17.
As of Wednesday’s update of the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health’s COVID-19 Dashboard, another 28 new cases of the disease were recorded in the last 24 hours, raising the total to 29,032 for the pandemic. With 222 recoveries since Tuesday, the active case count dropped 195 to 2,007.
Another death was attributed to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, this to a county resident at least 80 years old. The total death count is now 241, with one of those between 10 and 19 years old, six in their 30s, nine in their 40s, sixteen in their 50s, thirty-eight in their 60s, fifty-nine in their 70s, and one-hundred-twelve at least 80 years old.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County remains “high”, with a case rate of 354.6 cases per 100,000 persons in the last 7 days, a drop of 85.84 from the previous reading. The percent of tests returning positive for COVID-19 dropped over 2/3 of a percent to 9.91%.
18 more persons received their first shot of vaccine in the past day, raising the total to 71,944, or 62.4% of the county population. 59.4%, or 68,490, have completed their immunization, a gain of 32 since Tuesday.
