While active and new cases display relatively high levels in Sheboygan County, the trends of the COVID-19 pandemic here are pointing in the right direction.
One of the few gains for the coronavirus was noted after posting only 37 new cases on Tuesday; Wednesday’s update from the County Division of Public Health did show 105 new cases added to the total for the pandemic. The gain was much more typical of daily new cases than that shown the previous day, and the total count of 28,402 cases translates to just under one-quarter of the county population having dealt with a COVID-19 infection. Currently, 4,704 cases are active, 291 less than on Tuesday after there were 396 recoveries.
1,137 persons have needed hospitalization for the coronavirus at some time during the pandemic, a gain of 4 in the last day, while 27 are currently hospitalized, two fewer than on Tuesday.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County is still considered “high” with a case rate of 952.84 per 100,000 persons, a drop of 217.61 points in the last day. 24.83% of tests since Tuesday came back positive, a drop of 1.54%.
As of February 1st, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reports that the 7-day average of new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County was 72, down from 80 the previous day, continuing a decline that began after a level of 282 was reached on January 10th.
All 72 Wisconsin Counties are experiencing a “Critically High” case activity level. Statewide, the 14-day burden is 1,917.4, representing the total number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 Wisconsin residents in the past two weeks. The trend is a downward trajectory of 43% compared with the previous week’s reading. By comparison, Sheboygan County has a higher burden of 2,033.1 cases per 100,000 over the past two weeks, with a downward trajectory of 27%.
71,496 county residents have received at least one dose of vaccine, 43 of those since Tuesday and raising that percentage to 62% of the population. Another 107 contributed to the total of 67,726, or 58.8% of the county that is fully vaccinated.
