A marked decline in new confirmed cases of COVID-19 was displayed Tuesday on the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health’s COVID Case Dashboard. Only 37 new confirmed cases were logged, only about 1/3 of the daily pace seen Saturday through Monday when a combined 338 new cases were recorded.
28,297 instances of COVID-19 have now been confirmed in our county, with 4,995 of those active. That’s a drop of 64 cases in the last day, as there were 100 recoveries. Unfortunately, there was another death attributed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the latest casualty a resident in their 60s. Of the now 232 deaths, 109 were at least 80 years old, fifty-six were in their 70s, thirty-six were in their 60s, fifteen were in their 50s, nine were in their 40s, six were in their 30s, and one was between 10 and 19 years old.
1,133 persons have required hospitalization at some time during the pandemic, a gain of 9 in the last day. 29 are currently hospitalized in Sheboygan County, one more than on Monday.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County was not revised since Monday when it stood at 1,170.45 new cases per 100,000 population in the previous 7 days. The percent of tests returning positive dropped 1.72% to 26.37% on Tuesday.
The 7-day average of new confirmed cases, widely watched as a good measure of pandemic progress, continues a decline that began in the second week of January. As of January 31 in Sheboygan County that figure was 80, down from 117 the previous day. It had reached a pandemic peak of 282 on January 10th.
62% of county residents have now received at least one dose of vaccine, amounting to 71,424 persons, 29 more than on Monday. Another 96 received their second dose of vaccine, adding to the now 67,619, or 58.7%, who are fully vaccinated.
The County Division of Public Health has revised its data addressing confirmed cases by age group, correcting the time period to reflect the period 1/18 – 1/31. The chart is published below, and shows that during that period those 30-39 accounted for the most cases at 312. The fewest new cases in that period were to those at least 80 years old at 30 cases.
