While news of a tapering of the Omicron surge of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic begins flowing from other regions of the country, the pandemic in Sheboygan County is still growing, albeit at a diminished pace compared with earlier this month. The 7-day average of new confirmed COVID-19 cases reported on Monday had fallen to 124, compared with a peak of 280 recorded on January 10th. This mirrors the trend seen statewide. Trends aside, the scope of the pandemic continues to expand here.
Another 81 new confirmed positives for COVID-19 were recorded by the County Division of Public Health on Tuesday, raising the pandemic total to 28,336. 5,202 of those are active, 21 more than on Monday, as 60 more persons recovered. 1,116 persons have required hospitalization at some time for COVID-19, three more in the last day, while 38 patients are currently being treated, one less than on Monday.
The level of community transmission in Sheboygan County remains “High”. The case rate was unchanged since Monday at 2,078.2 cases per 100,000 persons in the last 7 days, while the percent of tests returning positive in the last week fell by over 1/3 of 1 percent to 34.54%.
Another 27 persons were given their first dose of vaccine in the last day, raising that total to 71,271, or 61.8% of the county population. 58.4%, or 67,274, were fully vaccinated, an increase of 37 since Monday.
