Another Sheboygan County resident, someone in their 40s, has died of causes blamed on COVID-19. This is the 197th casualty of the pandemic that began in March of 2020. Of the victims, one was between 10 and 19 years old, five were in their 30s, eight were in their 40s, nine were in their 60s, twenty-nine were in their 60s, forty-seven were in their 70s and ninety-eight were at least 80 years old.
Active cases on a day-to-day basis have increased since December 29th when 966 cases were being monitored. On Monday, 5,181 cases were active, 267 more than on Friday. This comes as 491 new confirmed cases were recorded by the County Division of Public Health, offset by the death and by 223 recoveries.
There are currently 39 patients being treated for COVID-19 in Sheboygan County hospitals. That’s five less than on Friday, however the total COVID patient count increased by 4 to 1,113 for the course of the pandemic.
The Level of Community Transmission in Sheboygan County is considered “High”, with a case rate of 2,078.2 new cases per 100,000 persons in the last 7 days. The percent of tests returning positive in that same time was 34.92%, an increase of 0.38% since Friday.
61.8% of Sheboygan County, or 71,244 persons, have received at least one dose of vaccine. That’s 67 more than on Friday. Another 66 received their final dose, raising to 67,237 the number now fully vaccinated. That’s the equivalent of 58.3% of the county population.
