Wisconsin drivers age 60 or older are being given more time to get their licenses renewed. The Wisconsin DOT made the move on Wednesday in light of the surge in COVID-19 cases that may present a health risk to those showing up in person to renew. Those with expirations anytime during this January, February or March will now have until March 31st, 2022, to visit a DMV office to renew with no late fee.
Drivers records are automatically updated, so that new date is already in the system with law enforcement.
If you want to check your license status, you can go online at wisconsindmv.gov/status.
There’s also an option to renew online for drivers up through age 64 as long as a REAL ID license is held and there are no changes in medical conditions. Once you’re renewed, you won’t have to return to the DMV in person for another 8 years.
