The number of active COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County surged 35% over the weekend. 954 new positive tests were recorded, upping the pandemic total to 23,245. With 220 recoveries, active cases increased by 583 to 2,240. That’s the highest since 2,603 were noted on November 25, 2020, and is now approaching the peak so far of 2,634 set the day before, November 24, 2020.
Another death was attributed to the coronavirus over the weekend, someone at least 80 years old. Of the 185 casualties so far, one person was between 10 and 19, four were in their 30s, seven were in their 40s, eight were in their 50s, twenty-eight were in their 60s, forty-five were in their 70s, and ninety-two were at least 80 years old.
There are currently 46 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 in Sheboygan County, the highest recorded during the pandemic. The most recorded during the previous peak of activity was 37 on 11-2-20. The Southeast Region of Wisconsin, which includes Sheboygan County, reports 95.5% of ICU beds currently in use, and 94.5% of all available hospital beds are occupied.
The Level of Community Transmission in Sheboygan County is considered “high”, with 956.3 total cases per 100,000 population in the last 7 days, up 151.72 from the rate reported on Friday. The Sheboygan County Coronavirus Case Dashboard reports a percent positivity rate of 29.76% over the last 7 days. But if one considers the new positive cases reported as a percent of total tests, positive and negative, reported since Friday, that figure is 74%.
With 126 persons receiving their first dose of vaccine since Friday, 70,467 – or 61.1% – have now been so treated in Sheboygan County. 57.7% have completed their vaccinations with 66 more persons joining the total of 66,529 since Friday. 892 vaccinations were administered last week.
