The SARS-CoV-2 virus, mostly of the Omicron variant, continues to spread in Sheboygan County with little indication of any control, as Hospital officials plead for the unvaccinated to reconsider and get their shots. Without response from the public, there are fears that capacity limits will be reached. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reports that as of Friday, January 7, 94.2% of all available beds in the Southeast Region, which includes Sheboygan, are occupied.
On Friday, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health reports 278 new positive tests were received, upping the total case count for the pandemic to 22,291. With 74 recoveries, 204 active cases were added, bringing the active daily total to 1,657 cases, the highest since 1,711 were recorded on December 10, 2020. 61.36% of the 453 tests received in the last day were positive, and the four reporting days this week have averaged a 59.56% positive rate.
There are currently 44 persons hospitalized in Sheboygan County for COVID-19, with 4 new patients added, balanced with an equal number discharged since Thursday.
The rate of community transmission in Sheboygan is “High”, with 804.58 cases in the last 7 days for every 100,000 persons, an increase of 141.32 in the last day.
70,341 persons, or 61.0%, have now received at least one dose of vaccine, 98 of those since Thursday. 102 more persons completed their series, raising the total to 66,463, or 57.7% of the county population.
