Elroy N. Herms, of Random Lake, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at Gables on the Pond in Random Lake. He was 90 years old.
Roy was born May 28, 1931 in Milwaukee, the son of Hugo “Howard” and Hilda (nee Schallock) Herms. He attended Boys’ Technical High School, and later studied to be a journeyman electrician. He worked in construction with the Electrical Union, finishing his working career in 1995 after several years with M&I Data Services.
Roy proudly served his country in the United States Reserves until 1962, where his focus was on motorcades and artillery.
On June 18, 1955, he was united in marriage with Kathlyn Teske in Milwaukee.
A devout Christian, Roy was a long time member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Whitefish Bay, prior to joining St. John Ev. Lutheran – Sherman Center in 1999. He enjoyed reading, boating and fishing. His greatest pride was building and maintaining the family cottage in Three Lakes, and he cherished every moment spent sitting on the porch with his soulmate and sweetie of 62 years, Kathy. She preceded him in death in 2018.
Roy is survived by his children: Susen (Ken) Wentland of Sussex and Dan (Liz) Herms of Random Lake. He is preceded in death by his sweetie, Kathy, infant son Peter Herms, his parents and siblings: Howard, Evelyn, Marian and Lorraine.
A service celebrating Roy’s life will take place at 10:30AM on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Wisconsin Memorial Park – Chapel of the Chimes, 13235 W. Capital Drive in Brookfield, where Roy will be laid to rest beside Kathy. The family will receive visitors at Wisconsin Memorial Park from 10:00-10:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Roy’s name for St. Jude Children Hospital.
