COVID-19 is filling available hospital beds, and Advocate Aurora is responding with a no-visitor policy.
The organization says the action taken on December 30th is to protect the health and safety of patients and team members, and to ensure that patients receive the care and support they need while also reducing the spread of COVID-19.
Advocate Aurora is allowing exceptions for adult visitors who don’t have COVID-19 in cases such as when patients need assistance with care and decision making, for emergency room drop-offs, childbirth, and for pediatric patients as well as in end-of-life situations.
Sheboygan’s HSHS St. Nicholas Hospital is still allowing up to two visitors per day, but those must be 12 or older, and adult patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 are not permitted visitation except for special circumstances.
As of December 31, the Wisconsin Hospital Association reports that 94% of ICU beds in the southeast region are occupied, 217 of those treating COVID-19 patients.
