Data measuring the direction of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Sheboygan County is not currently being issued by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health. That’s due to issues within the Wisconsin Electronic Disease Surveillance System which underwent upgrades over the weekend. The required down time resulted in a backlog of processing that’s still being completed.
While current numbers aren’t released, some related information is making it possible to determine rough figures. One of the tools maintained by the Centers for Disease Control is the “Level of Transmission” that looks at the total number of new cases in the last 7 days for all counties in the nation. The numbers published are rated per 100,000 population so rates can be evenly compared over different population densities.
As of December 9, Sheboygan County is experiencing a “high” transmission level of 448.24 per 100,000 persons. The latest population in Sheboygan County from the U.S. Census Bureau is 118,034, however the State DHS uses a figure of 115,340. Using the State’s figure this results in about 517 new cases in the last 7 days. Last Thursday a total of 19,214 cases had been tallied so far, suggesting that by this Thursday, December 9, that number could be expected to have reached about 19,731. Without updated figures on recoveries, however, it’s impossible to determine active case numbers. The percent of tests returning positive results in the last 7 days was 14.37%. On Monday that figure was 14.63%.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services has been maintaining records of vaccinations on a daily basis, and as of Thursday in Sheboygan County 58% of residents had received at least one dose of vaccine, amounting to 66,945 persons. 63,997, or 55.5%, were fully vaccinated. Those represent increases of 52 and 87 persons respectively since Wednesday.
