Although still well under half the peak number of active COVID-19 cases recorded during the pandemic in Sheboygan County…2,634 on November 24, 2020…a nearly sustained rise in the incidence of coronavirus infections continues in the data posted Wednesday by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health on its Coronavirus Case Dashboard, setting a new high number of active cases for 2021.
19,135 cases in all have been recorded during the pandemic, with 1,031 of those now active. The new high comes as 75 new positive tests were received since Tuesday, and 70 persons recovered, raising the active count by five to 1,031.
Total hospitalizations so far now number 962 as four more patients were admitted since Tuesday. Along with 2 discharges, the patient population grew to 32.
Sheboygan County is currently experiencing a “High” level of community transmission, with the number of new cases in the last 7 days equalling 518.47 per 100,000 population, a gain of 66.76 over Tuesday’s rate. The percent of tests coming back positive in the last week’s time fell from 15.72% on Tuesday to 14.16% on Wednesday.
40 more persons received their first shot of vaccine in the last day, raising that total to 66,602, or 57.7% of the county population. 55.1%, or 63,574, have now been fully vaccinated, a gain of 58 since Tuesday.
