Etude Elementary School, a charter school member of the Sheboygan Area School District, is now requiring masks for all students, staff, and visitors to the school.
Families were notified of the measure through a letter from the Director of the Etude Group, Ted Hamm, after the student population COVID-19 positive rate rose above the 5% threshold on the afternoon of Thursday, November 18th. The mandatory masking policy went into effect this past Friday.
The Sheboygan Area School District’s COVID-19 Dashboard on Friday showed Etude with a total of 13 students affected, four of those listed as “new”, for a Student Percent Positive rate of 7.43%. In addition, 2 of the 12 staff were also positive, for a Staff Percent Positive rate of 16.67%.
A policy passed by the SASD Board on October 13th states that “When active student COVID-19 positive cases reach 5% of the student population at a building, all students, staff members, and visitors will be required to wear facial coverings for a minimum of 7 calendar days, and until the building student positive case rate drops below 5%.”
According to the letter from Hamm, masking will become optional beginning Monday, November 29th unless it is extended, in which case a message would be sent to the families.
Hamm noted in the letter that an overall increase in COVID-19 was seen at Etude Elementary, and with robust testing available on-site and throughout the District, families were strongly encouraged to test for the disease. The Etude on-site testing clinic is open to students, staff and families Monday-Friday from 7:30 AM until 3:30 PM.
