The “big event” for Wisconsin hunters is, no doubt, the 9-day gun deer season that begins Saturday morning and closes the evening of Sunday the 28th. DNR Wildlife Manager Eric Lobner says that this 170th season is “…part of the cultural fabric of Wisconsin…”. But that’s not the only deer hunt underway, and over 800 deer have already been taken in Sheboygan County according to the DNR.
Archery and crossbow hunters have been in the field since September 18th, while a Disabled hunt and Youth Deer hunt took place in October. As of Tuesday that’s resulted in a take of 557 antlered and 305 antlerless deer in Sheboygan County.
By the end of the final deer hunt – the Holiday Hunt that runs Christmas Eve through New Year’s Day – the take of 862 so far will likely more than double. Last year 1,932 deer were taken in Sheboygan County.
