Competition for workers has employers upping the ante through higher wages to attract new help. The latest to enter the fray is Advocate Aurora, which announced on Thursday that it’s raising the minimum wage to $18 an hour beginning December 5th. Advocate Aurora says this will apply to over 10,000 team members, including those in food services and environmental services positions, while another 20,000 who already make more than $18 an hour will also get raises.
It was less that two weeks ago that Hospital Sisters Health System, which operates Sheboygan’s St. Nicholas Hospital and 14 others in Illinois and Wisconsin as well as 183 clinics, raised the minimum wage to $15 an hour for around 1500 of its employees that weren’t yet earning at least that much. Advocate Aurora had set its minimum at $15 an hour at the beginning of this year.
A check of the job search site “Indeed” showed 69 Sheboygan area positions posted by Advocate Aurora in the last two weeks.
